Magic Bars - The Ultimate in Sinful Goodness

I normally don't eat sweets at all except for an occasional piece of sugar free candy (there's a lot of really good ones out there). I will confess that I ate half of one of these bars. Then went back for the other half. They are that good. We have a few customers who come by every day when they know these are out on the counter.

The recipe is the original one from Eagle Brand. I use generic sweetened condensed milk with identical results. What makes mine taste extra decadent is using a smaller 11x7 baking pan, which makes them thicker and moister.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 package semisweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees for glass dish). Coat 11x7-inch baking pan with no-stick cooking spray.
  2. Combine graham cracker crumbs and butter. Press into bottom of prepared pan. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with chocolate chips, coconut and nuts. Press down firmly with a fork.
  3. Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into 15 bars. Store covered at room temperature.
The coconut I have on hand is more of a powdered variety and is much less sweet than your typical flaked coconut. I don't yet have a local source in Vegas, but I used to get it at Phoenicia, a middle eastern import store in Houston.

For an extra special occasion that includes discriminating adults, substitute dark chocolate chips for the semisweet and pecans for the walnuts. To. Die. For.
